Goosebumps: The Ghost Next Door

Chapter 1 pg 7
Quote:" She uttered a frightened gasp as she fell to the ground."
Response:It is the last sentence. Most of the time the last sentence has the most suspence.I chose this quote
because it scares me to think that Hannah got hit by a car or just got hit.

2/07/07

Chapter 2 pg 10

Quote:"Hannah turned back to talk to Danny, but he had vanished into thin air."
Response:I think you know who dissapeared. He is Danny Anderson. He hit Hannah with his bike knocking
her on to her lawn.It might be that he is the ghost because she has never seen Danny,EVER! Danny
also claims to have lived there all the time.

Chapter 3 pg 15
Quote:"She was nearly to the alley when she heard the shrill yelp of pain"
Response:Again, the last sentence. It's scary because I think did someone get shot? Then again, why would someoneshoot another person behind a post office. It's all so confusing. Thus the question of why did no one mention Danny other than when Hannah thought the window in his "house" was his room. Also, when Hannah told her friend Janey Pace which is in camp about Danny and thinking that Danny is cute.

Chapter 4 pg 20
Quote:"Dressed in black, he was tall and slender, his face completely hidden in darkness."
Response:I think that this could have been Death because you could hardly see Death's face. Then Death is dressed in a black robe.So This Death could be a new modified version.Still, dresed in black.

2/10/07
Chapter 5 pg 30

Quote:"...Danny toppled headfirst of the roof."
Response:I think that Danny should have listened to Hannah about not getting on the roof. Then Danny would have never fell, but what happened to him.Did Danny have to be rushed over to a hospital, was he unconcious.
2/14/07
Chapter 6 pg 36

Quote:"...peered into the window-and gasped."
Response:I wonder what frightened Hannah.Did she see no one there, did she see Danny floating, did she get caught looking into the window? What could have been so scary making her gasp.

The Indian Caste System
Can you imagine a place where you’re judged by your wealth and appearance? It’s called a Caste system .A caste is a group or class based on your social status. There are many different types of castes. Within the categories of the caste are people that have their own customs and traditions, like countries within a group of people.
There are many different categories in a caste. The Indian Caste has at least five castes, which are the most common. On the bottom are the Untouchables. They handle all the dirty work, like garbage. According to legend, Untouchables are never to be spoken to, seen, or touched by anyone in a higher class. They can only socialize with people in their class.
Above the Untouchables come the Shudras.Their social group doesn't have as much disgrace as the Untouchables, but still have a bad place in the Indian social pyramid. The Shudras take their place as poor Indian servants. Their masters are the richest people in India.
The caste for all the sellers/dealers/merchants is called the Vaishyas. This caste has a slight better life than the two listed before. The Vaishyas have stands to sell whatever they are selling, like clothes (etc.). They are also agriculturists and landowners.
Kshatriyas are the warriors and rulers of India. They are second highest in the Indian social pyramid. They have power but not all of it. Warriors that are killed in action get their name inscribed in a stone with other names as a memory of their bravery.
On the top of the Indian social pyramid is the caste for the Brahmin. Even though the rulers are supposed to have all power, the Brahmins do because they teach the Vedas, the sacred texts of the Indian caste. The Vedas are laws telling what to do within your caste. There are four kinds of Vedas the Brahmin teach. The Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda. They are about 3,500 years old.
One of the specific Vedas is the Yajur Veda. They have many rituals. A specific ritual is called the sacred fire. The ceremony offers the Indian fire god, Agni, to accept butters, grains, spices, and sometimes animal sacrifices for answers to their prayers.
In India, the reader should hope that castes in general are officially outlawed because it is cruel to judge by what someone owns, wears, or looks like.
